Hasp & Staples, Bolts & Padbars

The number of Hasp and Staples on the market is staggering. However, we've hand picked the ones we feel are suitable for the job! All of our hasps have concealed screws and pins that prevent them from being tempered with or removed. Most use anti-cut "staples" made from hardened steel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hasp & Staples, Bolts & Padbars FAQs

The hasp is the hinged plate that closes over the staple. The staple is the metal loop that receives the padlock shackle. When locked, the hasp covers the staple completely, protecting screws or bolts beneath. Both parts must align precisely for the lock to seat properly - poor alignment is a common cause of premature wear or difficulty locking.

Measure the padlock shackle diameter first. The staple hole should be 1–2mm larger than the shackle to allow for smooth locking without excess play. For discus or closed shackle padlocks, check internal clearance carefully, as their compact design leaves less space for fittings. If unsure, contact us with your padlock model, and we’ll recommend compatible hardware.

Most products include standard screws or bolts, but door and gate thicknesses vary. Heavy metal doors may require rivets or custom-length bolts, while timber doors might need deeper screws. If you need a specific setup — for example, concealed bolts inside a warehouse door — contact us for tailored recommendations.
