Simple, highly reliable, weatherproof and cost effective! An classic style of padlock using levers rather than the pins. Squire refer to them as 'Iconic' and right so since they've been used for decades.

More about this product

About this product

Not many padlocks are made using levers any longer as the mechanism predates the pin tumbler mechanism you find in most modern door locks and padlocks. Yes they are less secure and once upon a time people used to be able to pick them if trained. Nowadays that art has been lost and so the lever padlock actually remains relatively secure against picking.

Weather Resistance

The lock is made from galvanised steel. Although not stainless steel, this lock is highly weatherproof and will stand up to outdoor and even marine environments by the sea. Even if the galvanised body does begin to show signs of rust after perhaps 5-10 years, the mechanism is so simple that it will continue to function. Take a look at the old 770 in the photo on this page. This is at least 25 years old and yes there are signs of rust but galvanised steel takes many decades to rust through so it will just keep going and going, like the galvanised chain it is attached to.

Security Rating

These locks don't have an official security rating but they do come in three sizes and clearly the larger tou go, the more secure they'll be. But don't expect them to withstand huge forces or angle grinders. For a genuinely high security option see the High Security Section of the site.
